Goat Bag Records & Music was formed in 1979 to promote different bagpipes from Europe by producing albums from Macedonian Early Music Band: Peter Lees-Hammered Dulcimer Irish dances GB 002: from Hungary the Hurdy-Gurdy Man himself Robert Mandels' East European Folk (EEF) with Nikola Parov (Riverdance band) Hungarian and Bulgarian bagpipe, mesmeric Hungarian singer Marta Sebestyen GB 004, and album GB005 with virtuoso Kalman Balogh on Cimbalom and Ivan Barvich (Riverdance band) on Pan-Pipes.
The label branched out into pop music with a single by rock group Doctor Cosgill, Benediction/Douce Dame GB 003, released January 1981.
Goat Bag Record's first album '17 Macedonian Folk Dances' GB 1978 was No 10 in the Melody Maker UK Folk Album Charts 1980 and No 8 in 1981.This was a breakthrough album that established another type of bagpipe music in addition to the Northumbrian pipes and the popular Scottish and particularly the Irish bagpipes, which dominated the British folk music scene.
